Deep
Water Slender Wells Ltd (DWSW) was set up in 1997 as a subsidiary of Preda
Consultants Ltd. when a need for the development of
slender well technology was identified. Slender wells provide a standard
size completion
size within a reduced wellbore, permitting the use of a smaller diameter
drilling riser. DWSW evolved from a study of the feasibility of utilising slender wells in the North Sea. It was realised that although the designs had little or no benefit over conventional systems in shallow water areas, slender wells provided the potential for significant cost savings in many deep water areas of the world, such as West Africa and the Far East. DWSW has conducted detailed technical and economic feasibility studies for a number of deepwater developments around the world in conjunction with operators, equipment manufacturers and service companies. Slender Well systems are now available for drilling both exploration and development wells. Companies for whom DWSW has conducted studies include Shell, BP, TotalFinaElf, Statoil, and ExxonMobil.
